Stand for something

Great quote from one of the 7 books that change my life.

Be sure you stand for something!

Standing for something means have courage in your beliefs and convections, even when no one else is standing with you.

Standing for something means doing what you think is right, even when it’s hard.

It means living life on your terms and not on someone else’s. Do this!

Venture on the path that is right for you. Be clear in your beliefs and your vision for life.

But be clear what you stand for.

Because if Stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything

What do you stand for?

Build a Relationship with your Prospects

Hand shakeIn every sales situation I’m aware of, it’s important to establish a positive relationship with your prospect. Whether you’re taking orders at the Chick-fil-a drive up window and you’re trying to upsell an order of fries or you’re a medical device sales rep and selling millions of dollars worth of equipment, there are a few key elements to ensure you get the sale.

Perhaps the most important is this simple concept … People buy from those they know, like & trust.

Now, this shouldn’t be a difficult thing to accomplish. First off, you can’t come across as you’re trying to ‘sell’ someone. Rather, your approach should be how can you help them. The best sales people in the world are those who can identify a problem or need their prospect is experiencing, then solve it with their product or service.

Building a relationship will help you with this.

There are three key things you must do to start building a relationship with a prospect. They are:

  1. Building Rapport

  2. Find common ground

  3. Make them feel comfortable

The best way to win a sale it to build a relationship with your prospect. In order to do that, you must:

  • Find common ground, subjects, & interests

  • Get them to talk about their passions

  • Be genuine. Ensure they know that you want to help them and you are not just there to make commission

  • Be warm & friendly

  • Use humor. Laughter is bonding and will help them relax

  • Show interest in them and in their business

  • Don’t come across as needy

  • Give genuine compliments

  • Get them to talk about themselves

This is key … Build a relationship with your prospects

And guess what? If you properly build rapport, your prospect will be comfortable.

And why is that important?

People buy from those they know, like, and trust.

So practice it today. Work to build a positive relationship with your prospects.

What do you do to help people know, like, and trust you? List them in the comments below.

Strive to be of value

When it comes to Sales & Business Development, I have a few simple philosophies that I follow. They are:

  1. Give Value First

  2. Help People

  3. Strive to do your best

  4. Establish long-term relationships

  5. Have fun!

Heck, those are really my philosophies on life!

We could write a novel on each of these but for now, try to do this one simple thing.

Offer value to everyone you meet!

As Einstein said, “Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”

It’s funny how it works. Generally when you are of value, you are also a success!

Is what you're doing today getting you closer to where you'd like to be tomorrow?

Ask yourself if what you’re doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow.

Maybe it’s with your fitness or your business or in a relationship.

Each of us has something we’re trying to become tomorrow! You’ll never get there if you don’t do something TODAY to make TOMORROW what you want it to be!

Maybe you’re still thinking or coming up with you plan.

I’m a great thinker and planner. I’ve developed some amazing plans for things I’ve never accomplished!

Why? What’s the point? Stop that!

GET DOING!

So, are you? Are you doing things today that will get you closer to where you want to be tomorrow? I know I am!

Leave a comment below with your answer …

There is no elevator to success

Ponce Inlet LighthouseThere is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs.

I learned that this is a lot of truth in this statement this past weekend!

We visited the Ponce Inlet lighthouse with my kids in Ponce Inlet, FL. The lighthouse stands 175 feet (17.5 stories) high and is a 230 step hike to the top. It’s the tallest lighthouse in Florida and one of the tallest in the United States. Built in 1835, there certainly isn’t an elevator that will take you to the top.

Together, 3 of my kids and myself trooped to the top. Physically, the climb wasn’t that bad. However for my 9 year old son, he learned towards the top he had a fear of heights.

I’ve never seen this kid so petrified in his life! He was visibly shaking and nearly crying.

However, he made it to the top, then back down again.

At the bottom, I encouraged him to make the climb again. This time to destroy his fear of heights.

He did!

It took some work and a lot of courage, but he made it to the top of the lighthouse once more.

Over the next few days, he’s asked me to take him to the light tower again so he could climb it a few more times.

FEAR CONQUERED!

This isn’t just a clever saying for our family Instead, I find this very true!

There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs.

Everything you want is ...

Everything you want is on the other side of fear.

I can’t tell you how true this statement is! I’ve tested it time and time again. Almost always what’s blocking me from achieving something I want is fear.

Year’s back I read the book The Success Principles by Jack Canfield. It changed my life and put me on a path to success. Someday I’ll write an entire post about it!

For today, work past your fears! Let them be there, but still do the things you know you must to be successful.
